Position description
Mayo Clinic Social Media is an industry-leading digital community that strives to offer credible, relevant information and personalized interactions to educate, influence, and engage audiences.
Mayo is looking for a visionary leader who can advance this strategy and continue to position Mayo Clinic as a Category of One. The successful candidate must understand the dynamics of an evolving social enterprise and have a proven track record of building effective social media programs focused on engagement. This outcome-oriented person will understand and leverage real-time data and analytics to measure performance, inform new strategies, and identify new opportunities. The Director is responsible for near- and long-term strategy and manages a team of social media professionals who guide Mayo Clinic's presence across current and emerging social platforms. The candidate will establish and evolve guidelines and standards for the use of social media across Mayo Clinic.

The successful candidate will strive to protect Mayo Clinic's reputation and mitigate risk across social platforms, drive awareness and relevance of Mayo Clinic expertise and resources, and drive efficiencies with streamlined operations.

The Director must have a proven track record in managing programs in large, complex organizations, be comfortable building collaborative working relationships at all levels, and possess the skills and demeanor to lead and motivate teams within a fast-paced and agile environment.

Director-Communications Job Description
The position reports to and receives direction from the Division Chair-Consumer Communications and serves as a trusted advisor and communications partner to senior leaders. The Director works in close partnership with leaders, administrators, physicians and staff across Mayo Clinic. The Director leads and manages a team of communications professionals across Mayo Clinic's campuses.

Position Overview:
The position oversees the functional area of responsibility and the service line within the Consumer Communications Division and provides leadership to a high-performing team of professional staff. The Director manages staff and budgets with decision-making authority and leads the development, execution, and measurement of strategic communications initiatives, demonstrating a thorough understanding of communications and social discipline best practices. The Director provides leadership, mentorship, and career development to staff and exhibits Mayo's leadership model capabilities in inspiring values, engaging colleagues, bold and forward-thinking, driving results, serves as an expert in communications and is a trusted leader to senior leaders, physicians, and administrators. This leader fosters an environment where leading-edge developments and best practices in communications are explored, adopted, and adapted for Mayo Clinic. The individual proactively leads continuous improvement and demonstrates a willingness and ability to manage change cross-functionally. The leader conducts annual planning and has a keen understanding of the external environment, target audiences, and business needs to develop and measure strategic communications plans and support processes and systems. The leader coordinates and collaborates extensively across Mayo Clinic to ensure positive results.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, health care, and ten years of professional experience in the field of communications with an emphasis on social media with at least three years of experience leading and managing high-performing teams, OR a Master's degree in a related field and eight years of professional experience in a related field, with at least three years of experience leading and managing high-performing social teams.

The candidate will have proven communications expertise and servant leadership skills. This person must also bring strong communications expertise and experience managing teams in corporate or health care communications, staff engagement communications, media relations, news delivery, social media, or philanthropy communications.

The candidate will have the ability to effectively build, lead and motivate teams of individuals with diverse skills and abilities, strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills with excellent strategic judgment. The individual will be skilled in collaborative problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution and must possess strong leadership, analytical, oral, written communication presentation, organizational, and project management abilities. This person must be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment and must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. The candidate must have political savvy and the ability to function effectively in the face of ambiguity; they also must handle sensitive, confidential, and proprietary information appropriately. The individual should have the ability to rally the team, consistently deliver positive results, and positively influence others. Must have the ability to build positive relationships and navigate a complex organization with consensus decision-making. The candidate must have a proven ability to manage change effectively and have demonstrated success in budget management. The position requires occasional travel and the flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, which may include liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, health care or similar field and 10 years’ professional experience in the field of communications, with at least three years’ experience leading and managing high-performing teams OR a Master’s degree in a related field, which may include liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, health care or similar field and 8 years’ professional experience in the field of communications, with at least three years’ experience leading and managing high-performing teams.

Additional qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate-level degrees preferred. Proven communications expertise and servant leadership skills. Strong communications expertise and experience managing teams in corporate or health care communications, staff engagement communications, media relations, news delivery, social media or philanthropy communications. Ability to effectively build, lead and motivate teams of individuals with diverse skills and abilities. Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills with excellent strategic judgment. Skilled in collaborative problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution. Must possess strong leadership, analytical, oral, written communication presentation, organizational and project management skills. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment. Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Must possess political savvy and ability to function effectively in the face of ambiguity. Able to appropriately handle sensitive, confidential and proprietary information. Ability to rally team and consistently deliver positive results. Has a positive influence on others. Compensation Detail
Required education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The salary range every 2 weeks is approximately.$5,060.00-$7,336.80 based on a full-time position.
