Position description
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is seeking an Associate Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic Florida. Applicants must have an MD, PhD or equivalent degree with fellowship training and board-certification in Medical Microbiology by either the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Medical Microbiology. Experience with molecular infectious disease testing (IVD and LDT) is required. Candidates with expertise in sequencing technologies, clinical consultation, diagnostic stewardship, and quality improvement activities is preferred. Eligibility for Florida licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Director is required.

Qualified candidates will also be expected to assume responsibilities and duties for clinical pathology in the areas of: Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases Serology, and Molecular virology. The qualified candidate will contribute to the mission of Mayo Clinic through participation in patient care, clinical/translational research, and educational efforts such as involvement in fellowship and residency programs.

Experience or expertise in molecular infectious disease diagnostics, including next generation sequencing, PCR, laboratory-developed testing, and process improvement is preferred. At least three years of experience in clinical laboratory leadership is preferred, although well-qualified candidates completing fellowships in clinical microbiology will also be considered.

Mayo Clinic Jacksonville is a unique practice environment, with multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with large Infectious Disease and Transplant clinical practices committed to teamwork. Our clinical pathology laboratory offers an unparalleled, robust and growing test menu focused on the needs of the patient. The selected candidate will join a group of ~30 consultants. All Clinical pathologists have subspecialty expertise and participate in scholarly activities through research and education, offering a stimulating environment for professional growth and career development. The position includes an academic appointment with the College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic.

License or certification
Ideal candidates will have the following attributes:
  • A doctoral level medical degree (MD/DO, MD/PhD or PhD)
  • A track record of publication and participation in the field of medical microbiology
  • Board certification in Clinical Pathology (CP), Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) or American Board of Medical Microbiology
  • Meet all the qualification requirements for a Technical Supervisor according to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Director in the State of Florida
