Develops and facilitates delivery of educational materials for recycling, municipal solid waste, regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, and radioactive waste for internal and external audiences. Conducts educational programs to assure cost efficiencies, compliance with regulatory agencies, compliance with contractual agreements and Mayo's policies, procedures and values. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with Mayo employees. Operational tasks include coordinating and conducting waste reviews of work units, preparing and presenting educational material, participating in institutional and departmental committees and work teams. Establishes and maintains currency in recycling/waste trends, communicates changes in policies, procedures and programs, assists with recycling/waste operational problem solving, and maintains a budget as it applies to educational programs. Creates print, web and video resources; including maintenance of waste management and recycling website and video exchange. Occasionally may work irregular hours to provide education to off shift employees.
Bachelor's degree in science or related environmental field and 1 year of experience in science, waste or environmental field is required, or Associate's degree with 3 years of experience in science, waste or environmental field. Public speaking experience with at least one (1) year demonstrated presentation/training experience required.
Waste Management / Recycling experience and working knowledge of waste handling and disposal methods strongly preferred. Teaching experience using a variety of media is beneficial. Ability to establish and maintain effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills is essential. Proficiency in computer skills and ability to adapt to new processes and technology is required. A working knowledge of regulations for waste and recycling is a plus. Knowledge of Mayo Facilities and operation is helpful. Demonstrated ability to establish, plan and manage collaborative projects to completion is essential.
