This position is telework and may require intermittent time at one of our Mayo Clinic sites in AZ, FL, Rochester, MN or Eau Claire, WI.
Mayo Clinic has launched bold new initiatives to expand its reach and help more patients by creatively leveraging data analytics, digital platforms, business partnerships and international relationships. We are seeking an experienced, savvy, solution-oriented transactional data privacy attorney who will play a critical role in helping Mayo succeed in this endeavor. This Legal Counsel position will provide legal advice and counsel for a world-class, non-profit, academic medical center and affiliated health care system, joining an existing team specializing in this area.
Significant experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements, including licensing, software and other technology-related agreements, and resolving conflicting interests and objectives are critical skills for this position. The ideal candidate will also have substantive privacy experience (including familiarity with agreements involving the use of health care data), excellent negotiation and transactional skills, and the ability and confidence to represent Mayo Clinic in sophisticated, data-focused transactions. The candidate should also have the ability to identify, analyze, and strategically advise business stakeholders on regulatory and legal risks.
This position requires a committed but humble leader who will coordinate across the Legal Department to deliver exceptional legal services and clear and concise counsel. The position will work collaboratively with sophisticated Risk and strategic Business Leaders. A strong academic background, as well as excellent communication and writing skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple client relationships, with an understanding of, and willingness to meet, clients’ needs and business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi- state, corporate legal department.
Qualifications: JD from an accredited law school and license to practice law. A minimum of five years of experience as an attorney counseling health care clients on data privacy matters as described above is required. Candidates should have strong project management and organizational skills, sound business judgment, and a demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.

Requires a license to practice law in the state of residence. CIPP certification is preferred but not required.
