Position description
As Phlebotomist I or II you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections) using standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. You will provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling and transportation.
- Working with a variety of computer programs/systems.
- Utilizing excellent customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy
- Answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers and other health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor.
- Working independently as well as within a team.
- Demonstrating skills in coping, understanding, following written and verbal instructions, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making.
- Assisting with the training of students and new employees.
- You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Additional qualifications
- Must be able to push a cart and walk distances
- Moderate to advanced computer skills.
- Possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Willingness to travel to other MCHS locations for assignments as needed.
- Experience working in a medical field, preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience, preferred.
License or certification
To qualify for Phlebotomist II, applicant must possess a valid phlebotomy certification from an approved laboratory certification agency, such as American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Health Career Association (NHA), or American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
Certificates from a technical college where the course was taken are not sufficient. The Phlebotomist must have sat for a certification exam from an agency such as those listed above or must possess one of the following valid certifications: Medial Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency such as American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT) certification.
*Ongoing maintenance for certifications is not required.

Compensation Detail
Required education, experience, tenure, and internal equity will be considered when job offers are extended. The pay range for Phlebotomist I is $16.70 - $22.42 per hour. The pay range for Phlebotomist II is $17.61 - $23.95 per hour.
