Position description
Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with training new pharmacy staff. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Hospital Pharmacy and Sterile Compounding experience highly preferred. OR/Perioperative Pharmacy experience preferred. Note that current Registration with the Florida Board of Pharmacy and current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians is required.

Qualifications
Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least six months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician. High School diploma or equivalent.

Additional qualifications
Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English. Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment. Completion of post-secondary education preferred. No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.

Hospital Pharmacy and Sterile Compounding experience highly preferred. OR/Perioperative Pharmacy experience preferred.

License or certification
Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation. National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Schedule details
This full-time position is for 10 days of scheduled work per 2-week pay period, primarily scheduled as day shifts unless evening shift is specifically requested. Shifts are typically 8.5 hours long. Day shifts start between 0530 and 0730 and evening shift starts at 1445. Some swing shifts (starting at 1100) may also be scheduled.

Weekend schedule
Working every other weekend is expected.
