Responsibilities
This position will identify, help evaluate and develop early technologies and innovations coming from Mayo Clinic's research and practice activities and foster maturation of these, ensuring appropriate protection and disclosure as development progresses, and actively guiding inventors and teams to promote successful commercialization. The incumbent is expected to meet regularly (in person and virtually) with targeted innovation groups at Mayo Clinic in Florida to establish and cultivate a pipeline of ideas. This includes guided facilitation of their weekly innovation discussions, documenting (and recommending) action items, and ensuring follow through. Action items may include, but are not limited to, coordinating exploratory meetings on identified ideas, helping complete invention disclosures, facilitating protocol and prototype development and finalization, assisting with identifying funding opportunities and applications, actively engaging in designated programs focused on early, high risk idea development, and managing their overall idea pipeline ensuring commercialization as an end goal is a priority.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biological or Physical Sciences or Business is required. Three years' experience in an academic research environment, healthcare industry or life sciences industry is required.
A Master's degree or PhD in these same fields of study is preferred. Must have the ability to recognize new technology opportunities and unmet clinical needs and act as an interface to facilitate the protection and advancement of technologies to improve patient care. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, be able to manage a large number of ongoing projects simultaneously and effectively communicate as a liaison among inventors and Mayo Clinic Ventures.
