Position description
A respiratory therapist provides assessment, treatment, and monitoring of cardiopulmonary disease across the continuum of care. A respiratory therapist functions as part of an interdisciplinary team that coordinates and provides continuity of care in a financially responsible manner. A respiratory therapist is able to quickly and accurately assess a patient's condition and communicates effectively to the care team concerning about changes in patient's condition, results of diagnostic studies, symptomatology, and response to treatment.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Basic computer literacy, good verbal and written communication skills
Additional qualifications
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or healthcare related field. Preferred: Previous hospital experience. Preferred: Ability to function with initiative and independent judgment, desire for continuous quality improvement. Preferred: Additional NBRC specialty credentials.
License or certification
National Board for Respiratory Care entry level certification (CRT). Registered Respiratory Therapist credential upon hire or by the end of one year of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire or within 90 days from date of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent determined by site is required upon hire or within 6 months from date of hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) where applicable. Additional life support certifications may be required by site of hire.

Schedule details
- Supplemental employees providing direct patient care are required to be scheduled a minimum of 32 hours per 8-week schedule period.
- A minimum of 8 weekend hours will be scheduled during each 8-week schedule build per unit needs.
- Hours may be worked in four-hour increments or greater.
- Employees will be scheduled a minimum of one holiday per year per unit needs.
- The holiday shift will be included as part of the required shifts for that scheduling period.
- Supplemental employees must meet the same requirements as any other employee including, but not limited to, licensure, certification, health requirements, orientation and continuing education requirements such as computer based training (CBTs), annual in-service, or any other educational requirements in addition to the required scheduled 32 hours per 8 week schedule period.
