Position description
The Financial Counselor is responsible for promptly assisting patients with their financial clearance prior to, during, or after their treatment period. This position is responsible for obtaining and updating insurance, financial, and demographic information within EMR and Registration environment. Courteously and professionally helps patients and/or their families understand and assist with options to cover their financial obligations including but not limited to co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance. In addition, the position will be responsible for collecting and reconciling pre-pays and point-of-service payments. Creates and communicates patient estimates as required by clinic needs. Responsible for assisting patients with ad-hoc financial issues as needed prior to, during and following their treatment at Mayo Clinic. Last, the position will be responsible for pre-billing invoice review as it pertains to package aggregation and registration confirmation. This role requires adherence to quality assurance guidelines as well as established productivity standards to support the work unit's performance expectations.


Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and 2 years of relevant experience.


Additional qualifications
Position requires multiple years of experience in a health care setting involving customer service to become knowledgeable in practices involved in patient financial counseling and/or coordination of services related to insurance verification. Basic knowledge of self-pay collections, medical terminology, Snomed and CCSD knowledge, and a functional understanding of insurance is preferred. Requires excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex environment with varying points of view. Must be comfortable with ambiguity, exhibit good decision making and judgment capabilities, attention to detail. Incumbent must be self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized who will promote a productive, collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic. Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously is necessary in this position. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential. Knowledge of and experience using an EMR system is preferred. Must have the right to work in the United Kingdom. Must be fluent in English.

It is a condition of employment that the successful candidate be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 prior to the Commencement Date. ‘Fully vaccinated’ means that you have received 2 doses of an approved 2 dose vaccine (such as Pfizer or AstraZeneca) or one dose of an approved single dose vaccine (such as Janssen). You must have had your final dose at least 14 whole days before the Commencement Date. If you have a medical reason for not being vaccinated, you must inform us as far in advance prior to the Commencement Date as possible so that we may determine whether and how a reasonable adjustment or accommodation may be made.
