Why Mayo Clinic
Mayo Clinic in Arizona is undergoing unprecedented growth as part of the BOLD FORWARD Plan. With a focus towards 2030, Mayo Clinic envisions the next generation of healthcare incorporating excellence, simplicity, convenience, affordability, and accessibility. This transformation of healthcare will be founded on Mayo Clinic’s primary value: The needs of the patient come first.

Position description
Mayo Clinic in Arizona seeks a Palliative Medicine physician. The Mayo Clinic Division of Palliative Medicine consists of 6 board-certified physicians who practice in several settings on the Mayo Clinic campus – an active palliative medicine consult service within the Mayo Clinic Hospital, a vibrant outpatient clinic, and a 12-bed inpatient hospice unit co-managed with our community partner, Hospice of the Valley. Hospice of the Valley is the largest, not-for-profit hospice organization in the country. Through this collaboration, faculty and trainees have the opportunity to care for patients throughout their journey, including the end-of-life. In the coming year, we anticipate expansion of our hospital-based service with the addition of a second consult team.

Faculty engage in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. The Palliative Medicine Division supports an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine that attracts outstanding candidates from across the country. Currently supporting two physician trainees, the fellowship program is anticipating expanding to three fellows in the coming academic year. In 2019, we established our NP/PA palliative medicine fellowship program. Mayo Clinic is an active partner in the Palliative Medicine Education Consortium.

The division believes strongly in a team-based, interdisciplinary approach to care. This is reflected in our team members which consists of 4 advanced practice clinicians, 3 RNs, 3 social workers, and a chaplain – all of whom are full time members of the Palliative Medicine Division.

This growing academic practice provides support for faculty to develop their own specific academic and educational pursuits. This is paired with generous support for Continuous Professional Development (formerly CME) and dedicated programming for clinician’s wellness throughout their career. Excelling in teamwork and interdisciplinary care, our providers have unparalleled access to subspecialty care and extensive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

License or certification
Candidates must be M.D. or D.O. with an Arizona license or eligibility for a Arizona license and must be board-certified or board-eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Successful candidates will also have an interest in a career in academic palliative medicine.
