Position description
Assists pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patients. Gathers, labels, and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares, and compounds non-sterile and sterile medications including hazardous medications accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages, and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies, and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with training new staff. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to patient’s age and cognitive ability. Accurately and efficiently processes prescriptions. Interacts with patients and managed care plans to authorize prescription coverage. Assembles prescriptions and follows proper procedures to prepare and dispense medications. Accurately and efficiently completes patient purchase transactions utilizing point of sale systems. Manages complex inventory decisions. Trains and mentors technician staff. Prepares/compounds complex intravenous and/or hazardous medications. Performs drug diversion surveillance. Works in practice-specific pharmacy satellite(s). Proficient in specialized department information technology.
Qualifications
High School/GED and a minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience required.
Additional qualifications
A minimum of six (6) months of Mayo Clinic Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
License or certification
Current Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Technician License. Current CPhT certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification board.
