Position description
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is seeking a Hospitalist physician to join an established department.

The Hospitalist will primarily be responsible for managing overall treatment plans for unassigned hospital patients. This includes collecting patient medical history, reviewing appropriate records, assessing, evaluating, and making diagnostic determinations, and providing medical treatments and patient management. The Hospitalist will not provide specialized medical patient care, but will be responsible for coordinating the provision of care by other medical/surgical specialists as needed through the referral of patients to medical specialists, social services, and other professionals as appropriate.

The Hospitalist will also be responsible for ensuring the patient’s primary care physician is kept informed of medical condition/treatment throughout hospital stay. The Hospitalist will be responsible for receiving calls from the Mayo Clinic Health System hospitals and other hospitals around the country and providing patient management advice, triaging transfers to Mayo Clinic Rochester hospitals, managing patient flows from the Emergency Department and allocating patients to General Medical and Subspecialty hospital services.

The Hospitalist will be engaged in medical research and quality improvement/leadership projects to continuously advance the hospital practice at Mayo Clinic.



License or certification

A qualified candidate must have M.D., D.O. or foreign degree equivalent, must have or be eligible for Minnesota medical license, and must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

In addition, the candidate must have at least 24 months of prior experience working in hospital medicine, and must have advanced training (fellowship or Master’s degree) and demonstrated scholarly activity (such as publication record or additional training or experience at a top ranked academic medical center).
