Responsibilities
The Cancer Center Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing / compounding hazardous medications for the cancer center, managing the receipt high cost medications from wholesalers and vendors; overseeing all aspects of inventory management; distributing oral medication for patients enrolled on clinical trials; mitigating product shortages and recalls; participating in quality improvement projects, and performing data analysis. This individual will develop and maintain strong relationships with pharmacy staff, medical oncology staff, Mayo Clinic staff, and patients. This position will be based in Rochester.
Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Effectively performs the activities and duties of the Pharmacy Technician II position. In addition, the technician maintains competency and is scheduled to work with regular frequency in one or more advanced Pharmacy Technician roles. Advanced Pharmacy Technician roles include:
Manages complex inventory decisions
Tech-Check-Tech Pharmacy Technician Auditor
Technician Instructor/Primary Preceptor
Preparing / compounding hazardous medications as a primary job function
Working in a practice-specific pharmacy satellite(s) or work area requiring advanced knowledge and skills
Compounding Sterile Preparation Instructor/Assessor
Qualifications
Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least three years of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English. Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
Completion of post-secondary education preferred. Prior experience performing advanced Pharmacy Technician activities preferred. No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
License or Certification
Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation. National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Monday through Friday; Day shift only (with variable shift option times). No evenings, overnights, or on-call shifts.

One weekend shift (Saturday and Sunday) 6:30AM - 11:00AM every 8-10 weeks.
