Responsibilities

The Orthopedic Surgery Artificial Intelligence lab is a leading orthopedics research group focused on developing innovative applications using artificial intelligence for improving patient care. Data Scientists within OSAIL have the opportunity to work within a vibrant group of research professionals and surgeons driven to advance artificial intelligence within orthopedics.

Data Science Analysts for this position will:

  • Use deep learning libraries like PyTorch and MONAI to develop models and algorithms using medical imaging data
  • Build image processing pipelines using computer vision techniques
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, implement, and validate pioneering AI-based approaches to solve complex data problems in orthopedics
  • Wrangle with huge-scale imaging and electronic medical record datasets
  • Participate in the drafting and editing of scientific abstracts and publications
  • Present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

To be successful, the candidate must have:

  • Fluency in Python, or another programming language used for data science
  • Experience with medical imaging, including common medical imaging formats (DICOM, Nifti)
  • A strong grasp of deep learning and machine learning fundamentals and frameworks (PyTorch, Scikit-Learn)
  • Some exposure to database technologies, such as SQL
  • Experience with NLP techniques and text data is desirable.


Qualifications

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a domain-relevant field such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics, data science, health science, or other analytical/quantitative field

Preferred Qualifications:The preferred candidate will possess a Masters or Doctoral degree in a relevant field such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, health science, or other analytical/quantitative field and a minimum of one year of professional or research experience in data science.  

Post-graduate degree (MS, PhD, or MD, completed or near completion) in biomedical data science, informatics, computer science, engineering, statistics, computational biology, or a related field, with a background or interest in imaging

  • Strong record of distinguished scholarly achievement
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with fluency in spoken and written English

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.; $92,456 - $138,673 / annually.
