Why Mayo Clinic
The Mayo Clinic Special Purpose Processor Development Group (SPPDG) is seeking an experienced digital logic designer to support a variety of projects.

Position description
Overview: Performs increasingly complex microelectronic engineering functions in the area of Hardware Engineering which may include theoretical development, conceptualization, design, implementation, simulation, software, assembly, test or analysis. Works under limited supervision and able to review others’ work. Interacts routinely with engineering team, other project leads, and Supervisors to review project objectives and notable results. Performs limited travel.

Technical Skill: Apply technical knowledge and experience to solve moderately complex engineering challenges, translating experience from prior assignments using state-of-the-art resources. Can apply experience to new assignments. Obtains materials and selects tools required to complete projects. Through the careful review of reports, patents, literature and other data, maintains an up-to-date awareness of the latest developments in the technical field as it pertains to the current assignments.

Organization: Understands overall goals of project to which assigned and helps execute tasks to support those goals. Able to organize and prioritize effort and resources across multiple project assignments. Initiates design reviews of own work and participates in reviews for others.

Communication: Analyzes output data, document and report results, including ability to generate technical summaries and presentations for internal or sponsor audiences.

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and minimum of 9 years of engineering experience. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a TS/SCI clearance and adhere to security requirements as described in the NISPOM, which requires US Citizenship.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Additional qualifications
Applies broad technical knowledge or is a recognized subject matter expert, capable of solving complex engineering tasks using state-of-the-art resources. Able to leverage expertise across multiple domains to meet group objectives. Through the careful review of reports, patents, literature and other data, maintains an up-to-date understanding of the latest developments in the technical field as it pertains to the domain expertise. Maintains relevant technical skill base.

Must have experience in various aspects of digital logic design including Hardware Description Languages such as VHDL or Verilog. Experience in both FPGA (familiarity with state-of-the-art Intel/Altera and/or Xilinx platforms preferred) and ASIC implementation desired. Prefer candidates with a proven ability to develop and optimize signal processing algorithms to meet timing and power requirements.

Monday-Friday; Work schedule of 9 hours per day, 9 weekdays per two-week pay period.

Weekend schedule
As necessary due to exempt nature of position.
