The Director of Business Development reports to Senior Director of Global Consulting. The position will be responsible for international business development and coordination with Mayo Clinic International (MCI), Corridor Medical Directors and Corridor Operation Leads to develop and execute the growth strategy. The position will support the Executive Director and Medical Director of MCI Solutions. They will also interact with a variety of internal stakeholders including the MCI senior leadership as well as Corridor and other leaders across the organization. In addition, the Director will work with external business entities and institutions to serve as the point person on generating new consulting and/or business and or member opportunities. Direct reports may include supervisors and/or other department/division personnel.
The Director will manage all business development activity for MCGC and Mayo Clinic Care Network International (MCCNI). The Director will have primary commercial focus on proposal writing and pricing, scoping, business development planning, client pitches and working with legal and compliance to develop contracts. Responsible for working with the Corridors to drive the process of identifying, evaluating, and proposing consulting and/or membership opportunities/alignment and managing these opportunities through internal Mayo Clinic International processes as well as responding to client needs (for example proposal and bid writing or presenting to potential clients and members). The Business Development Director will develop future sales strategies and manage all business development activities, planning and staff. Responsibilities will include structuring and negotiating commercial terms of consulting engagements as well as being responsible for completing and finalizing contracts. Where necessary they will also lead a multidisciplinary team including financial analysis and problem solving to create world-class proposals and develop future sales strategies. Manage all business development activities, planning and staff. Participate in staffing planning in accordance with fluctuating workload. Partner in the support of enterprise department/division and institutional projects, staff recruitment, policy, and process implementation, and serve as a primary resource for issues and communications. Performs duties independently and initiates judgment in handling a variety of operational and relationship management issues.
- Master's degree and ten years healthcare experience required.
- Two  years of supervisory experience required.
- Required skills include demonstrated ability to generate new business; analyze and report on new business opportunities; closing deals; Additional create proposals, excellent communication (written and oral) skills; strong financial analysis; to think strategically and be innovative.
- Must have ability and confidence to effectively function independently, be a self-starter, a team player and have led direct reports in previous positions.
- Ability to effectively present to internal and external groups at a high level representing the leadership of the organization.
- Frequent travel required.
- Business experience in a smaller, entrepreneurial company as well as experience in a large corporate environment, where business skills and knowledge have been gained (including operational, strategic, financial, marketing) preferred.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
Hours / Pay period
Monday - Friday, flexible as supporting various time zones.
