Responsibilities
There is a one FTE position available for Emergency Department (ED) pharmacist at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester MN. The position is primarily evening shifts with the opportunity for day shifts, and every third evening weekend staffing responsibilities. All shifts are 10-hour shifts.
Pharmacy services in the ED are provided 24/7/365 and include double-coverage and overlapping shifts. Responsibilities for ED pharmacists include providing quality, comprehensive bedside patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team, and response to ED codes. Clinical services consist of direct patient care at the bedside, provision of recommendations regarding drug therapy, and identification of drug-related problems. Situational awareness and task prioritization in the ED are enhanced through electronic automated alerts for resuscitations (e.g., trauma, medical, stroke, STEMI, toxicology, procedural sedation, intubation). Active participation in medical decision-making is expected and valued, and a collaborative practice agreement exists in the ED. Pharmacists partake in medication ordering and drug preparation in emergent situations to facilitate patient care. Clinical consultations and resuscitations through emergency telepharmacy and telemedicine services support ED providers in the regional health care system. There are robust ED-based Behavioral Health, Observation Unit, EMS and Emergency Preparedness practices. Providing didactic lectures, simulation training and orientation for ED multidisciplinary team members is expected, as is precepting of pharmacy students, PGY1 and PGY2 EM / specialty learners.
Involvement in scholarly activities including quality initiatives and research is expected in alignment with Mayo Clinic’s three shields (Practice, Education, Research) and is supported through extensive institutional and departmental resources. Mayo Clinic Rochester is a regional Level I adult and pediatric trauma center, comprehensive stroke center as well as an internationally renowned quaternary referral center, in addition to serving adult, pediatric and geriatric patients from SE Minnesota and surrounding states. The Saint Marys Campus ED has ~ 80,000 visits annually and an admission rate of ~ 30%. Patients are of high complexity and acuity. The regional EDs see over 320,000 visits annually. Saint Marys Campus has 140 ICU beds for cardiology, surgery, trauma, medical, neurology and pediatric patients.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience includes at least two years of relevant pharmacy practice experience.
- Computer experience. Commitment to excellence, accuracy, attention to detail and teamwork. Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively with others, organize time well, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Previous experience including specialty residency training in emergency medicine and/or equivalent experience of 3-5 years in practice.
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly pursuits including research/quality improvement, publications, or scientific presentations in emergency medicine
- Relevant applicable pharmacy experience working in a progressive and collaborative practice environment.
- Experience and/or interest in teaching and/or precepting
- Board Certification in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care within 12 months of candidate's eligibility.
License or Certification
- License to practice Pharmacy in the State of Minnesota or eligibility for licensure.
