Position description
The Mayo Clinic Libraries seek a Library Specialist I for the Plummer Library in Rochester MN. The ideal candidate has experience using an integrated library system, is comfortable navigating complex internet sites, and is excited about providing excellent customer service for our physicians, researchers, staff, and students. Important skills include close attention to details, clear and concise writing skills, and motivation to successfully collaborate with others. This person will be part of a team that provides customer assistance, processes resource requests, covers service points, troubleshoots technology issues, works on specialized projects, and maintains the physical library spaces. Other duties as assigned.

Under moderate supervision, the Library Specialist I performs and is responsible for complex and specialized library responsibilities requiring independent judgment, creative thought and a thorough understanding of selected principles of libraries, information science and information technology. The Library Specialist I coordinates multiple library services in a public services or specialized setting or completes complex technical responsibilities in a technical services setting. Responsibilities include proficient use of multiple library electronic applications and Mayo institutional applications and providing information, reference support and consultation to library users and colleagues. The Library Specialist I develops expertise in several sophisticated applications. The Library Specialist I may provide assistance to the supervisor by training and organizing, monitoring and scheduling the work of other employees, students or volunteers with some supervisory input. The position may be limited to one library location primarily or may encompass the library system as a whole. May perform tasks that support services, maintain workload or provide coverage in the work unit or elsewhere in the library system.

Baccalaureate degree in Library Science, Media Services, Education, Computer Science, English or related field strongly preferred. A combination of education and experience or eight years of relevant library experience may be considered in lieu of Baccalaureate degree. Knowledge of library systems and electronic applications, including Windows, required. Excellent customer service and communication skills required.

Additional qualifications
- Library work experience preferred.

- Strong reading and writing skills with knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.

- Ability to work with detail accurately; ability to sort, organize and arrange alphabetically and numerically.

- Ability to understand and decipher bibliographic references and information.

- Experience in a health care setting preferred.

- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

- Candidates with supervisory-related experience preferred.

Exemption status

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $20.69 per hour.

Schedule details
Primarily works full-time Mondays through Friday, weekday hours.

Weekend schedule
Some weekend or evening hours may be required to provide adequate staffing when coworkers are away.
