Position descriptionThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing LPN Travel Pool will provide staffing support across Mayo Clinic nursing sites (Minnesota and Wisconsin) as determined by staffing and patient care needs.As a Mayo Clinic employee, the Staffing Pool LPN actualizes Mayo Clinic core values and culture. The LPN will travel on a routine basis to various locations. Flexibility and adaptability are essential in work assignments and work schedules. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care.
QualificationsGraduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
Additional qualificationsLPN traveler experience preferred. Mayo Clinic site experience preferred. One year LPN experience working in an applicable (acute care, critical access, transitional care, rehab or long term care) setting, with travel or float experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
License or certificationCurrent active MN or WI nursing license by applicable state(s) requirements. Additional state nursing licenses may be required.
Valid driver's license, current auto insurance,
clean driving record, and mode of transportation.
Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross and must not expire within the first 90 days of employment.
