The position involves evaluations of invention disclosures coming from Mayo's research and clinical activities and assistance in processing these disclosures and any resulting patent applications. Specifically, the Liaison would: a) assist in identifying potentially patentable inventions; b) provide background materials, such as prior art searches; c) assist in drafting patent applications; d) assist in evaluating all patent correspondence, including the review of cited art with investigators; e) assist in right to use searches by identifying and evaluating third party intellectual property requirements; (f) assist in preliminary analysis of patent threats related to current Mayo products; and g) assist in educating Mayo Clinic staff regarding patent issues. Where such activities will become part of legal analysis or legal risk assessments, such work is performed at the direction and oversight of Mayo internal counsel and/or external legal counsel delegated to that role by Mayo.
This position is a hybrid or remote work and onsite expectations. Must live within driving distance of Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN campus.
A PhD, Masters Degree or Undergraduate degree in the Sciences required or at a minimum two years of patent related work. Three years experience in an academic research environment required or equivalent experience in a corporate environment with a dedicated staff of intellectual property professionals and well established IP management and protection policies , 5 or more years preferred Willingness to complete course requirements and to pass the Patent Agent Exam required within one year of employment. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, be able to manage a large number of ongoing projects simultaneously and effectively communicate as a liaison among inventors, Department of Business Development and Patent Counsel.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,750.40 based on a full-time position.
Hours / Pay period
Must be able to work an 8 hour day Monday - Friday between 7am - 6pm
