Position description
Organizational Relationships:
Charter House Environmental Services (ES) Supervisor reports to the Director of Facilities Services (director). The ES Supervisor is responsible to report quality, budget, and significant activities or changes to director. ES Supervisor provides direction and support for operational ES staff and assigned ES support staff. Supervisor may provide coverage during Facilities Services Leadership absences. Supervisor will work closely and collaboratively with Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Coordinator, Construction Coordinator, Mayo Clinic Facilities Operations Sections, other Units that support Charter House and with Human Resources staff to assure appropriate personnel management. ES Supervisor will also work closely with other Charter House leadership to ensure area needs are being met to service residents, visitors, customers, and staff members.
Position Overview: (Major Functions and Non-Essential Functions):
Supervises ES housekeeping and custodial staff within Facilities Services Department (department) alongside support staff. Spends majority of time providing support and direction to ES staff and providing information to director and other support staff of department for continuous improvement. Adjusts staffing levels to match workload demand and assures efficient use of supplies and equipment. Performs duties independently and initiates judgment handling ES supervisory issues and is involved on various committees to develop policies and procedures. Establishes and coordinates ES programs and policies. Customer service and fiscal responsibility are key measures for success in this position. Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates, and coordinates all phases of ES operations which includes acquisition and maintenance of cleaning equipment/supplies, cleaning policies and procedures, delivery of quality cleaning service, personnel management, budget and operational planning, and regulatory standard compliance. Provides direction for assistant supervisors and leads and oversees all staff functions for ES department. Mentors support staff in developing excellent supervisory skills and coaches them to provide excellent customer service. Sets an expectation for ES department of mutual respect, appreciation for diversity of staff, and need for input from staff regarding departmental decisions. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with Charter House residents, Charter House and Mayo Clinic employees, and related vendors. Formulates and implements policy relating to quality control. Quality of services must be monitored and ability to initiate continuous improvement initiatives and activities is essential. Customer service must be monitored, measurable metrics set, and customer input sought. Is accountable to maintain standards of accrediting bodies and infection control. These standards include, but are not limited to, OSHA, Minnesota Department of Health, CMS, and Mayo Clinic Infection Control standards. Must write an operational plan and formulate budget in collaboration with supervisory staff and accountant. Is accountable to maintain ES department budget, including efficient management of resources and cost-effective procurement of supplies, materials, vendor services, and equipment. Various methods should be utilized to monitor efficient functioning of ES department, which include information databases, maintenance records, quality assurance, and continuous improvement strategies. Sets up multidisciplinary committee structures which facilitate process improvement. Participates with director in writing of vendor contracts and manages such contracts once they are in place. Routinely reviews prices of resources and identifies opportunities to reduce costs if possible. Involves users of resources, supplies, materials, vendor services, and equipment in cost reduction processes and negotiations.


Qualifications
The ES Supervisor position requires a minimum of a two-year post-secondary education. A four-year post-secondary education and progressive responsibility in a leadership role is preferred. Two years of previous housekeeping/custodial supervisory experience is preferred, but not required. The qualified individual must have demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving and organizational ability as well as ability to work in a group/team setting or independently. Must have computer knowledge and be proficient in various office programs and software. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with people and handle difficult situations. Must be able to perform custodial duties in emergency situations. Job specific special demands; stands and walks-on their feet 80% of the time in the work areas, works with machines and moving parts, moderate physical exertion/lifting and some exposure to chemicals and infection hazards.

Additional qualifications
Experience in long term care and/or heath care environments is desirable for the position.
