The Arizona campus of the Mayo Clinic is seeking a surgeon to be the Section Head for Acute Care Surgery within the Division of General Surgery. We extend this opportunity to a board-certified/board-eligible surgeon who has successfully completed fellowship training in surgical critical/acute care. Successful candidates should possess a strong interest in teaching and/or clinical research.
Mayo Clinic Arizona (MCA) is a vibrant, growing campus. Despite the hospital’s small size (300 licensed beds), we are ranked #16 in the country by U.S. News & World Report 2019-2020. The campus takes particular pride in its program in Gastroenterology/General Surgery, ranked #6 in the country. The Arizona campus is growing rapidly, with over 90 beds to be added in 2023, and another 100+ beds by 2030.
Acute Care Surgery on the MCA campus is a busy non-trauma practice, encompassing the entire spectrum of abdominal pathologies and acute surgical emergencies. Candidates interested in the position must have the desire to lead the development of a freestanding Acute Care Surgery practice, including the recruitment of additional surgeons. There is also the possibility for this position to have a portion of time allocated to working in a multidisciplinary ICU, if desired, with co-hiring by the Department of Critical Care Medicine. The ICU at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is a vigorous 30 bed (planned expansion to 48 beds by 2023) unit that cares for a broad spectrum of medical and surgical critical illnesses in support of a quaternary hospital. Skill sets related to the complex ICU care of solid organ transplant patients, cardiovascular surgery and advanced heart failure patients, ECMO, neurosciences and surgical critical care are expected.
For the right surgeon, the Mayo model offers a rewarding career that promotes excellence in patient-centered care. You can thrive in an environment that supports innovation and has a wealth of resources available to you including collaboration with top specialists, a thriving general surgery residency program (4 residents per year), and support for research and other academic pursuits.
Compensation is very competitive, and benefits are comprehensive, including a relocation package.
Interested candidates are invited to apply online by submitting a CV and letter of interest.
License or certification
