Performs the necessary duties to provide quality care to all animals utilized in research. Responsible to Animal Facility Lead, Manager-Comparative Medicine, Veterinary Consultants, and administrative staff.
High School diploma required. One to two years' applicable experience in animal handling preferred. Comparability of previous experience to be evaluated by the Manager-Comparative Medicine.
Must be able to assume responsibility and work independently without close supervision. Must be able to work cooperatively with other Animal Care Technicians. Must be able to carefully follow set procedures as dictated by the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Animals, the Animal Welfare Act and guidelines established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. Must have above average manual dexterity. Must be able to stand for more that 50% of the time. Must be able to bend or squat routinely. Must be able to work with arms above shoulder level.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $16.49 per hour.
Sunday - Thursday schedule.
Start and end times will be discussed at interview.
Rotational weekends and holidays.
