Position will be responsible for athletic training duties in our regional orthopedic department, including working with a team of orthopedic providers from a variety of specialties. Main focus will be sports medicine practice with support to our acute care clinic model for our athletic trainers.
Provides athletic training services including prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic injuries in the interscholastic, intercollegiate, elite amateur, professional and recreational patient populations within the scope of their licenses. Demonstrates competency in taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment and ability to carry out prescribed treatments and recommendations by referring providers. Provides event coverage and management of athletic injures in one on one basis. Provides sports conditioning programming and wellness services to athletes. Supports Orthopedics Department in athletic training functions as needed.
Serves as a liaison of Mayo Clinic Health System to collaborate with schools and the community. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Participates in operational aspects of the department, performance improvement activities within the department and participates in quality improvement projects. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, and organizational safety and fire safety programs.
Bachelor of Science/Arts or Master’s degree in Athletic Training and certification by the Board of Certification and National Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Strong computer skills. Strong written and verbal skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology. Basic knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same. Decision-making and problem solving skills. Team-building skills. Flexibility with scheduled days and hours of work.
Previous athletic training experience is preferred. 1-2 years high school or collegiate athletic training experience is preferred.
License or certification
Current State of Wisconsin Athletic Trainer license and Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC). Current BLS certification. Driver’s License may be required depending on location of hire.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $21.80 per hour.
Position will also be responsible for primary school coverage at one local area high school, to include two weekly athletic training visits and up to 4 evening event coverages a pay period as needed per our regional team needs.
Our team of athletic trainers are on a weekend rotation for coverage of weekend community events outside of their primary school assigned events that may fall on a weekend. This rotation is once every 5 weeks.
