The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a CRNA to join a growing CRNA only practice at Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague, MN. The CRNA will be joining a team of two Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. The CRNAs administer anesthesia, including regional and neuraxial and anesthesia-related care as members of the CRNA anesthesia team. They provide/perform pre-anesthetic evaluations; anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; post-anesthesia care and follow-up and peri-anesthesia support. This position is also unique in that it offers the opportunity to practice independently and see a broad case mix that includes general surgery, OB/GYN, GI endoscopy, Orthopedics, ENT, urology, and podiatry.

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) performs clinical anesthesia duties and takes appropriate responsibility for direct patient care and for on-call as assigned. The CRNA prioritizes anesthetic decisions, administers anesthetic agents under department protocols and guidelines, and communicates patient status to healthcare team members. This individual performs coordinating duties by facilitating staff coverage, assignments, and breaks as needed for anesthesia providers. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the lifespan. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs as required. The CRNA demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and/or team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. This individual is active in professional organizations and participates in community activity. Emergency response to airway or code situations may be required. Position requires call and working weekends and holidays.
This position requires a registered nurse who has completed a formal program in nurse anesthesia. The anesthetist must pass the national certifying examination for nurse anesthetists within six months of graduation. Within that six months, if the certifying exam is not passed, the candidate cannot be credentialed to practice. Must have a Masters Degree or higher to be considered. Mayo employees attach 3 performance reviews. External applicants attach 2 letters of reference or previous or last 3 performance reviews.
License or certification
Minnesota RN License & current CRNA license. American Association of Nurse Anesthetist (AANA) certification or Board eligible. National Board CRNA certification (NBCRNA). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
- We utilize a computer assisted scheduling system (Qgenda) that allows employees convenient access to the schedule on-line.
- We have an attractive and flexible schedule of 12 days on and 9 days off. (Two weeks on/1 week off) This is perfect for someone looking for opportunities to have extended time off without using PTO/vacation days.
- This is a full time CRNA position. Three full time CRNAs provide coverage to the hospital and also provide care to a Critical Access Hospital in Waseca, MN when needed. Weekend call is one weekend in 3. During the week, the call rotates between 1 other CRNA. The CRNA then has the 3rd week off from work.
- As the anesthesia services grow in this hospital and region, the model may change to include additional hiring of CRNAs. If this were to occur, then the current model would change to a typical call/post call type of CRNA schedule.
- Normal day shift starts at 7:30 a.m.
- Response time for call is 20 minutes.
Weekend call shift is 3:00 p.m. Friday through 7:00 a.m. Monday
