Generates treatment plans per Physician prescription. Accomplishes this via treatment planning computer and treatment machine data used by Radiation Oncologists in selecting the best treatment for patients. Performs and teaches related radiation dosimetry functions, including Brachytherapy.
EDUCATION : The Medical Dosimetrist position requires one of the following qualifications, at minimum: Graduation from a hospital or university Medical Dosimetry Program, with classroom and clinical curriculum of nine months duration or longer. An additional one-year of on-the-job experience in Medical Dosimetry, under the direct supervision of a certified Medical Dosimetrist, or Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist is preferred. Must be a registered Radiation Therapist, as defined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), with on-the-job training in Medical Dosimetry, under the direct supervision of a certified Medical Dosimetrist, or Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist for a period of two years. Must have a degree in the Physical Sciences, with on-the-job training in Medical Dosimetry, under the direct supervision of a certified Medical Dosimetrist, or Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist for period of two years. Certification examination given by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board must be successfully completed by the end of the second year of employment.
EXPERIENCE : Two years of experience as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is preferred.
COMPETENCY: JOB KNOWLEDGE: 6 months of on the job training may be necessary to allow a new employee to become proficient with Mayo Clinic equipment and procedures. ADDL CONSIDERATIONS: Good interpersonal skills are necessary. Exposure to ionizing radiation, employee will wear proper monitoring equipment at all times while in the department or in the operating room assisting with Brachytherapy procedures. Frequent stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting is required.
License or certification
To maintain this position with Mayo Clinic any employee that does not enter this position credentialed by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board as a "Certified Medical Dosimetrist" (CMD) must successfully pass this certification exam no later than the end of their second year of employment
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
Hours routinely will be Monday through Friday, 8a-5p, with occasional need for afterhours and/or weekend coverage.
