Why Mayo Clinic

The CHCR serves as an innovation platform to harness and coalesce academic and community resources in four core strategic areas:
  • Impact: Accelerate the impact of Mayo Clinic’s resources and scientific discoveries in rural and urban populations that are socially/economically disadvantaged through research in high-priority areas
  • Engagement and partnership: Engage diverse communities and populations to foster cross-sector partnerships to transform health in all social, cultural, and economic contexts
  • Policy: Advance policies and programs on health equity for sustainable solutions for social and structural barriers to health
  • Train and educate: Foster the environment to enable top talent in health equity and community engagement to flourish in internal and external collaborations
The CHCR serves as the research hub for health equity and community engagement at the Mayo Clinic, including the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS). It works closely with institutional leaders across research, education, and patient care at each Mayo site. As part of a commitment against racism, the Mayo Clinic has committed $100 million over 10 years to support the growth and development of diversity, inclusion, and equity programs, including new research positions, to establish Mayo Clinic as a leader in health equity. In that spirit, Mayo Clinic seeks national leaders in health equity-related disciplines to lead efforts to accelerate impact with our unique communities and partners across the three campuses in the United States and beyond.

LOCATIONS
Mayo Clinic campuses and the Mayo Clinic Health System encompass five states in three U.S. regions. The diverse geographies vary in racial and socioeconomic composition and community partners offering unparalleled opportunities for impact in Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American communities and in rural and urban populations. Candidates are encouraged to express preferences related to which campus(es) (MN, AZ or FL) would best fit their requirements, recognizing that the CHCR is an enterprise-wide center that draws on research talent, patients, and technologies from all campuses.

Position description
The CHCR is recruiting three institutionally-supported faculty positions (Ph.D, M.D., or equivalent) to serve as Associate Directors on the Rochester, Arizona, and Florida campuses who will report to the Director of CHCR. Successful candidates are expected to be at the Associate or Full Professor level, to have track record in peer-reviewed extramural funding (including federal grants/contracts), to lead their own cutting edge research program, and to provide leadership and direction for the health equity and community engagement research program in collaboration with other leaders at each campus. Appointments will include substantial, long-term research support, technical and computational resources, center resources as Associate Director, and a highly competitive compensation package with exceptional benefits. Academic rank, salary, and start-up package will be commensurate with experience.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement innovative models to accelerate integration of communities across the clinical and translational science continuum in both cancer and non-cancer-related areas, leveraging internal, extramural, and community resources.
  • Assure integration of community members and strategic partners and stakeholders in our catchment area and beyond, in our research in collaboration with clinical and educational partners.
  • Oversee local and regional efforts and collaborate with institutional teams and strategic partners to increase the diversity of research participants, leveraging Mayo Clinic’s 2030 strategy.
  • Partner as the site-based leader in institutional efforts to create the environment for diverse health equity talents to flourish, including recruitment, retention, training and mentoring.
  • Increase the engagement of scientists across the translational continuum (from basic scientists to community scientists) with the community.
  • Enable all CHCR infrastructure, specialized workforces, and programs to ensure optimal technical performance, sustained achievement, and integration with Mayo Clinic priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be an established scholar with a track record in managing multidisciplinary biomedical enterprises with the following broadly-defined credentials:
  • Doctoral level degree in a relevant discipline including social science, basic science, epidemiology, health services research, and clinical research.
  • Expertise in health equity and community engaged research or related areas.
  • Record of multidisciplinary team science and collaborative research, extramural funding, and publication/dissemination of research findings.
  • Evidence of leadership in academia, success in mentoring, and program building.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
  • National or international reputation to be appointed to the rank of associate professor or professor (tenure equivalent).
