Position description
Performs STAT and routine pathology frozen section procedures (preparation, processing, and/or staining of patient tissues) prior to the microscopic study and diagnosis by the Pathologist and/or Dermatopathologist. Preforms Pathology biopsy specimen grossing (description, weight, color, simple dissection). Preform and assist Pathologist Assistant or Pathologist with autopsy procedures (preforming evisceration techniques). Interacts with physicians, nurses, and other allied health individuals in a manner which is helpful in understanding test availability for the department. Helps to problem-solve cases for Pathologists and other staff members as needed. Covers on call services on rotational schedule.
Associates degree and/or Bachelor's degree (Biology/Science related degree) required. One year of experience preferred. Must have completed an accredited Histology training program.
Additional qualifications
Working knowledge of the methods, instrumentation, grossing techniques, anatomy of the human body, evisceration techniques, and frozen section procedures is required. Must be able to work (rotating shifts) and evenings upon occasion as well as on call support.
License or certification
Clinical Laboratory Technologist (specialty Histology) Florida licensure HT (ASCP) and/or HTL (ASCP) national certification Valid Florida Driver’s License to be able to cover frozen section and on call procedures.
