Effectively performs the activities and duties of the HME Specialist II in addition to the orthotic fitter role. Assists patients with product selection, product fitting, and training in the use of orthopedic products; may work in the clinical or retail store setting providing orthotic fitting services. Position requires ABC or BOC Orthotic certification (or working toward) to perform the primary role of fitting complex orthopedic braces. Gathers registration and insurance information accurately and efficiently, and processes information for payment according to payer requirements. Handles private patient information in a compliant and confidential manner. Assists with maintaining store inventory including inventory cycle counts and perpetual inventory. Performs duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations of the patient. Resolves problems under minimal supervision and independent performance. Takes ownership of store processes and customer service with minimal management intervention. Acts as a preceptor for new staff. Assists leadership in inventory management and procurement. Responsible for handling complex patient orders. Assists store leadership by performing a lead role in a more advanced function in the store location.
Advanced roles as a primary job function include::
- Manages store inventory processes in location.
- Manages technical sales process in location.
- Performs an advanced certified role.
- Works closely with clinicians in providing OTC and custom bracing options best suited to the patient.
High School diploma or equivalent. Two years minimum as an HME Specialist II or comparable work equivalency. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understand English. Able to learn technical tasks. Able to follow written and verbal directions. Able to apply math and calculator skills. Able to efficiently use computer software applications with keyboarding experience. Exceptional customer service skills. Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment, able to multi-task and make decisions affecting patient care. Attention to detail. Advanced knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance billing. High level of professionalism.
Physical and mental stamina to be able to withstand what can often be a fast-paced, stressful environment; may be on feet 90-100% of the time. Must be able to tolerate repetitive hand motion. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Two years post-secondary education in an orthopedic field; or 5 years of experience in home medical equipment in lieu of.
License or certification
Current ABC or BOC Orthotic Fitter certification or must complete the certification process within 1000 hours in the position.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $20.44 per hour.
No current weekend requirement. May be required in the future depending upon clinical need.
