This position is direct patient care with in home education and equipment teaching for patients and family needing durable medical equipment, hospice, or oxygen. This position is home based in Eau Claire but will be cross trained to help the La Crosse location, if needed. The position is an entry level position with the opportunity to ladder and advance within the Mayo Clinic Store team.

Position description
This position is a training position for becoming and Home Medical Equipment (HME) Technician II. A HME Technician that primarily drives to take home medical equipment to a patients’ home to educate and fit patient to the appropriate equipment. In addition the Technician is responsible for educating and ensure the equipment can safely be used in the home. Assists patients with product selection, set up and training of home medical equipment in accordance with provider prescriptions or Hospice request. Performs duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations of the patient. Provides patient Oxygen, CPAP, Hospital Beds, Wheelchairs, Knee Walkers, and other HME equipment or supplies as needed typically in a home setting. Completes minor in home repair of medical equipment as needed. Perform basic vehicle maintenance. Responsible for after hours on-call requirements to service home medical equipment emergencies.

Gathers registration and insurance information accurately and efficiently, and processes information for payment according to payer requirements. Handles private patient information in a compliant and confidential manner. Assists with maintaining store inventory including inventory cycle counts and perpetual inventory.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understand English.
Able to learn technical tasks.
Able to follow written and verbal directions.
Able to apply math and calculator skills.
Able to efficiently use computer software applications with keyboarding experience.
One year retail sales or customer service experience within the last five years or three years of health care experience in lieu of.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment, able to multi-task and make decisions affecting patient care.
High level of professionalism.
Attentional to detail.
Physical and mental stamina to be able to withstand what can often be a fast-paced, stressful environment; potentially on feet 90-100% of the time.
Must be able to tolerate repetitive hand motion.
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Additional qualifications
Prior experience in the home medical equipment field.
Delivery vehicle or experience driving a commercial vehicle.
Medical equipment sales or medical billing experience.
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance billing.
Proven organizational and problem solving skills.
Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
License or certification
Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $18.04 per hour.

This position is typically 8-5 Mon-Friday with on call responsibly every 3rd or 4th weekend.
The primary location for this position is NWWI but will have responsibility to work in SWWI, if needed.
This HME Technician position would primarily service Hospice, Oxygen and in home dme equipment setup for patients.
Weekend schedule
Every 3rd or 4th weekend on call from Friday at 5 pm to Monday at 8 am.
