The Services Management Unit within the Mayo Clinic External Patient and Provider Systems Section is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join the team as an IT Application Architect. The Services Management unit supports the Center for Connected Care, providing technology solutions for patients and care providers. Connected Care part of the vital Mayo Clinic digital health strategy aimed at improving access, service, affordability and high quality experience through digital health care solutions in order to extend Mayo's knowledge and expertise. The Center for Connected Care is continuing to build out its Video Telemedicine and Remote Patient Monitoring platforms and capabilities, as well as looking for ways to integrate those capabilities with the Electronic Health Record and other Mayo Clinic platforms. The Application Architect will focus on implementing, stabilizing, and maturing technology solutions in this space, working collaboratively with Connected Care team members as well as with Enterprise Architecture and other teams across the Information Technology department.
Works in partnership with technical architects to ensure that IT solutions are complete, integrated, and in alignment with Mayo Clinic's strategy and technology roadmap. Monitors industry features and standards in order to provide input to both IT and Mayo Clinic strategy. Analyzes the overall enterprise architecture and compares it against industry standards and trends to proactively identify opportunities for new and better solutions in Information Technology.
Understands and documents core business processes and translates them into data flows between and outside of IT systems. Fosters and creates partnerships with the clinical and business area to develop a solid knowledge base of the business area. Understands business strategy and designs the target business architecture based on industry standards.
Provides leadership in developing new system requirements and researching, evaluating, and selecting vendor solutions. Analyzes fit of potential application solutions within the architecture; leads discussion on readiness for implementation in Mayo Clinic’s environment. Works in partnership with technical architects to ensure that IT solutions are complete, integrated, and in alignment with Mayo Clinic's strategy and technology roadmap. Obtains and communicates information pertinent to the selection of the appropriate mix of projects and programs to support business objectives.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of existing systems and certification in the vended application. Able to design, develop or modify programs, algorithms or rules using vendor command language or similar technology tool. May serve as liaison for industry partnerships or as a Mayo Clinic representative in national industry events.
Designs and provides orientation and training for new employees; serves as a coach and mentor to others across the organization.
Provides input to managers for operational and strategic planning needs.
May be required to provide 24/7 on-call support.
Master’s Degree with 6 years’ experience OR Bachelor Degree with 8 years’ experience. Experience to include demonstration of the following areas: operations analysis, information systems implementation, system architecture, and systems analysis.

Knowledge of system design principles. Demonstrated ability in solving complex technical problems with multiple computing technologies and across multiple systems. Experience in IT system architecture, application design and system integration is preferred. Demonstrated ability in assessing and integrating new technology with existing systems is preferred.
Ability to take responsibility and accountability for activities; ability to multi-task and prioritize issues appropriately. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of personnel. Evidence of strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills. Ability to work in an environment exhibiting a high level of ambiguity. Project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently, commit to and meet deadlines, take initiative and follow through on tasks. Possesses an objective and positive attitude. Experience working in healthcare technology beneficial. Exposure to managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications preferred.
Vendor application certification may be required.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,624 based on a full-time position.
Hours / Pay period
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
May be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation
May be required to provide 24/7 on-call support.
This vacancy may be open to full time telework candidates within the U.S./ reasonable travel to a Mayo facility if ever a business need/ meeting or client-facing.
