Why Mayo Clinic
The Custom Applications Development Unit within the Section of Genomics & Bioinformatics Services in the Department of Information Technology has two openings for a Sr. Analyst/Programmer to provide Development and Support of Laboratory Custom Applications. The persons filling these positions will be involved in developing and supporting a variety of Clinical Genomics applications for the Laboratories within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. The successful candidate must possess excellent analytical and documentation skills and have the ability to interact with individuals at all levels including Division and Department leadership and will be interacting with laboratory personnel as well as other IT teams and management. The candidate will also have proven skills in taking Business requirements and formulating those into application solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s expectations. The candidate will be versed in the TTA for Information Management and will have expertise in the Java, J2EE, J2SE development platform. Candidates must be willing to carry a 24x7 on-call pager and respond after normal business hours as needed. A motivated candidate that thrives in an Agile team development environment, utilizing code repositories and leading or participating in code reviews is a must. Efficiency is a key for developing Custom Apps where schedules and dollars are at a premium. Overall a candidate must have a willingness to learn and grow their technical and interpersonal skills.
Position description
Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of custom system software, and/or the installation and maintenance of purchased systems software, as well as the configuration and support of hardware systems across Mayo Clinic. In conjunction with more senior technical staff, develops proposals that consider alternatives and business case, and gains needed institutional approvals. Evaluates alternative approaches and presents recommendations to teams and unit leadership. Regularly reviews applications and makes modifications and/or updates to ensure currency and functionality within established environment. Maintains and supports multiple systems or complex software applications and their associated hardware at multiple Mayo Clinic sites. Produces and maintains documentation such as system requirements, designs, resource inventories, and plans. Provides technical and project leadership to other staff members, demonstrates initiative, and works independently as needed to accomplish responsibilities. Works effectively across departmental organizations gaining consensus of stakeholders. May interface with vendor support service groups or other external support teams to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Acts as a liaison to Mayo departments and vendors to adequately support the division’s computing systems. Interfaces routinely with colleagues who may be located at any of the Mayo Group practices to perform job responsibilities requiring virtual collaboration and partnership. May be required to provide 24/7 on-call support.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience, including 1 year demonstrated technical experience;

Or, Associate’s degree and 7 years’ experience, including 1 year demonstrated technical experience.

Applies effective system design principles and software development methodologies. Demonstrated ability to multi-task among multiple complex assigned tasks/projects. Evidence of strong communication, meeting management, and organizational skills and ability to adjust the message as appropriate to the audiences of varying technical capabilities. Evidence of project management skills. Possesses an objective and positive attitude with all tasks and projects. Possesses a high level of project and deliverable consistency through demonstrated repeatable and reliable performance. Evidence of ability to take initiative and proactive on starting tasks and assignments and ability to work independently. Experience working in healthcare technology. Exposure to managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications.

A Master's/Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. Experience in a professional Health Care IT or Software Development environment is a plus. All candidates must have excellent documentation, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop data models, stored procedures, and execute queries or other application DBA activities, MS SQL and Azure SQL experience a plus. Candidates will have experience with many of the following tools and technologies Java 8/11, Maven, Spring MVC 5 / Spring Boot 2, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate; experience with JavaScript (ES5/ES6), Typescript, HTML/CSS, : Rxjs, NGrx, Ramda, Angular/Bootstrap, REST API design and development and Linux and Shell development. Infrastructure such as Azure App services, Tomcat, Azure AD, OAuth 2, Cleo, Oracle and IBM’s ODM rules engine a plus. Candidates should be versed in server-side and client-side test-driven development principles and practices using tools such as Spock using groovy, TenstNG, Jasmine and Protractor. Familiarity in using InteliJ, TFS/Azure DevOps, Git/Gitflow, and Service Now for code development and On Call support is a plus. Knowledge of the software development lifecycle methodology will also serve a successful candidate well. The candidate must be self-directed and be able to work as a member of an Agile team.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,318.00, based on a full-time position.
