Position description

The Gastroenterology & Hepatology Acute Care Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (NPPA) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to care for inpatients with gastroenterological or hepatological concerns by providing: comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, specialized procedures, and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. This position will be primarily hospital-based though may have some ambulatory responsibility based on patient and practice needs. Involvement in education, research and quality improvement available based on candidate interest and practice need. Call, weekend, and/or holiday service will be required and shared with other members of the care team.

Qualifications
  • Previous gastroenterology experience as an advanced practice provider preferred
  • 2-5 years of clinical experience as an advanced practice provider required

  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations
License or certification
For Nurse Practitioners:
  • Current RN license, Advanced Practice Certificate, and Prescribing and Dispensing Certificate in Arizona
  • Acute Care Certification as nurse practitioner by an approved certifying organization
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire
For Physician Assistants:
  • Graduation from a university program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant
  • Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Active Arizona License issued by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire
