Position description
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant III performs these tasks in any of these authorized settings: (clinics, hospitals and/or ambulatory surgery centers). Tasks may include: Obtaining patient history, performing physical examinations, ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic testing and procedures, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, offering counseling and education to meet patient needs, make appropriate referrals and prescribing and dispensing prescription medication. Assists and executes bedside procedures according to specialized competencies maintained in the credentialing office and as approved by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation and the Board of Nursing. Actively participating in state licensing and hospital credentialing demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development of the life span. Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Active in professional organization and participates in community activities. In addition to the above requirement the Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will complete the following: Achieve competency in bedside ultrasound within one year of hire. Achieve completed credentialing to perform specialized procedures as described on the specialized procedural competency list maintained by the credentialing office. Spends at least 75% of day/nights based at the hospital (rounds, service or shift work). Performs specialized procedures per competency maintained in the Medical Staff Office. Provides evaluations and consultations with indirect supervision at least 50% of the days worked. Provides 24/7 response to specialized service response teams as assigned. Provides 24/7 assistance to any departmental subspecialty group facing unexpected changes in acuity and/or census. Participation in research leading to abstract submission within a two-year time period. Takes Call Assignments
Physician Assistant:
Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida.

Nurse Practitioner:
Master's degree in Nursing required. (If licensed prior to 1998, Master's degree not required by the State of Florida.) Must have current Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license or eligible to obtain Florida license. Certification by the ANCC or AANP in a specialty area required.
Additional qualifications
Demonstrated success in curriculum design and development. Prior simulation experience is preferred. Prior research experience is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant educational content and appropriate methods of delivery of education for adult learners. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, organizational and self-directive skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to work with others to accomplish goals through collaboration and coordination. Ability to collect, compare, sort and prioritize information to be used in the decision-making process. Ability to flex work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate the needs of the practice. Strong computer skills and electronic medical record experience preferred. Transplant, Neurology/Neurosurgical and advanced Cardiac/Cardiothoracic surgical, mechanical circulatory support and interventional procedural experience preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
License or certification
Nurse Practitioner:
Must be a graduate of an accredited university, Master of Science in Nursing required (If licensed prior to 1998, Master’s degree not required by the State of Florida). Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an ARNP in the State of Florida.

Physician Assistant:
Must be a graduate of an accredited university, NCCPA Certification required
Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a PA in the State of Florida.

This will be a nocturnist role, 13 shifts/month. 10 of these shifts will be nights 7pm-7am and 3 will be days 7am-7pm with weekend requirements.
