Position description
Medical Oncology is looking to hire a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) into the community oncology practices in Albert Lea, MN and Owatonna, MN. The position will split as .6 FTE in Albert Lea, MN and .4 FTE in Owatonna, MN.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with solid tumor and blood malignancies as part of our care teams.

NPs and PAs are an integral part cancer at Mayo Clinic. They see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with supervising oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based chemotherapy/immunotherapy as well as provides care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression/progression/recurrence, clinical trials enrollment and end-of-life care.

Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP/PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, excellent communication and assessment skills, as well as the ability to balance treatment with symptom management and psychosocial support. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues from Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP/PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams.

Once established clinically, the division and tumor group are very supportive of mentoring NP/PAs in other academic and research pursuits. We strive to see our Advanced Practice Providers excel in clinical practice, research, and education shields.
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current MN RN license and certification, (or eligible to be certified), as an ANP or FNP.

Or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice. A current registration of temporary permit with the MN State Board of Medical Practice is required.

Must be eligible for DEA registration. Basic Life Support Certification required.
