Medical Oncology is looking to hire a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) into the Thoracic Oncology Care Team.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with thoracic malignancies as part of our lung care teams.
NPs and PAs are an integral part cancer at Mayo Clinic. They see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with supervising oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based chemotherapy/immunotherapy as well as provides care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression/progression/recurrence, clinical trials enrollment and end-of-life care.
Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP/PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, excellent communication and assessment skills, as well as the ability to balance treatment with symptom management and psychosocial support. The individual NP/ PA will work within the focused Thoracic Oncology Care Teams. The Thoracic group has 2 teams comprising of Consultants, NP/PAs, RNs and other allied health. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues Pulmonary, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP/PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care.
All NP/PAs in Oncology will provide back-up coverage to our Acute Clinic serving Oncology outpatients presenting with acute symptoms, on average 1-2 times/year.
Once established clinically, the division and tumor group are very supportive of mentoring NP/PAs in other academic and research pursuits.
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certified as an FNP, ANP or ACNP; or
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
The NP PA must be eligible for DEA registration.
Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.

no call and no weekends
