Position description
The APP in Nephrology at Mayo Clinic will provide patient care in the hospital setting to patients on the nephrology consulting services. Areas of focus for this role will be end stage kidney disease including inpatient dialysis management. Future opportunities may include care of nephrology patients in the ICU setting receiving renal replacement therapies. We are seeking members for our dynamic hospital-based team. Our team needs members who can quickly adapt to the demands of providing life-saving therapies while providing compassionate care. A general flexible approach will be necessary, as the hospital environment continues to reflect the changing demands of our patients .

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for assigned patients. Provides primary health care to individuals and families. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to: obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering (including ordering dialysis), conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's cultural and social economic status is required. The candidate demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong computer skills. Must be able to work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team. Must be flexible and willing to handle change.
*Takes call assignments from home for patients on the nephrology service once or twice per week when working and will work one weekend every 6 weeks and one holiday per year. Work day will consist of 12 hours days (7AM- 7PM). Please note for training and orientation the individual will work 8 hour days (8AM- 5PM).

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, or ACNP .

Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.

BLS certification and DEA registration required.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,936 based on a full-time position.

Schedule details
The practice hopes to offer 12 hour days in the future. Current state: the schedule will consist of a combination of 12 hour days with some APP's working 8 hour days. The 12 hour days will represent 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Will be expected to take call assignments from home for patients on the nephrology service once or twice per week when working and will work one weekend every 6 weeks and one holiday per year.
For orientation, the individual will work 8 hour day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
