Position description
The Nephrology practice includes direct patient care in the Nephrology outpatient clinic, dialysis unit and hospital setting. Areas of major focus for this role include: outpatient clinic practice--following and educating chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients; and outpatient dialysis coverage. Currently the Nephrology practice primarily serves patients in our La Crosse, WI and Onalaska, WI locations. Dialysis services are also rendered in Decorah, IA and may be rendered to additional locations in person or virtually as well. Future opportunities for research and hospital service/on-call responsibilities are available.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for assigned patients. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to: obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering (including ordering dialysis), conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's cultural and social economic status is required. The candidate demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, and education and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong computer skills. Must be flexible and willing to handle change.
Nephrology experience is preferred but not required.

Physician Assistant: Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Wisconsin and Iowa. ACLS/BLS certified.

Nurse Practitioner: Master's degree in Nursing required. Must have current Wisconsin and Iowa Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license or eligible to obtain Wisconsin and Iowa licenses. Certification by the ANCC or AANP in a specialty area required (ideally acute care nurse practitioner). ACLS/BLS certified.

Current Wisconsin and Iowa RN licenses and certification as an APNP (or eligible to be certified).

Schedule details
A typical work day will consist of 8 hours days (typically between 7AM-5PM), Mondays-Fridays, depending on the needs of the practice and work assignments, which may change over time.
