Position description
This position is in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and will support the Sports Medicine practice. Prior experience in Sports Medicine and orthopedic surgery is strongly preferred.

The Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner will perform the following tasks:
  • Obtain patient history
  • Perform physical examination
  • Order and perform appropriate diagnostic/therapeutic procedures
  • Collaborate with the Sports Medicine surgeon to develop and implement a treatment plan
  • Monitor effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Provide counseling and education to patients and their families
  • Function as 1st assist in surgery
  • Provide 1st call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other department APP’s and residents
  • Provide sports coverage on occasional nights or weekends
The Physician Assistant or acute care Nurse Practitioner will also work collaboratively with other department APP’s and residents.
Qualifications
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner:
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university.
  • Master of Science in Nursing required.
  • Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an CNP in the State of Arizona. Must have national certification.
  • RNFA - First Assist is required.
Physician Assistant:
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university.
  • NCCPA certification required.
  • Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Arizona.
Additional qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Two to five years of clinical experience required.
  • Surgical experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.
License or certification
  • Must provide evidence of application for DEA certificate upon hire, obtain DEA certificate within 90 days of hire, and maintain certificate thereafter unless waived by department/division.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
