This position is responsible for fitting, ordering and dispensing of eyewear using physician prescriptions to assure customer satisfaction. Interprets prescriptions and assists patients in selecting appropriate eyewear. Instructs patients on cleaning and handling of eyewear. Measure and fits all eyewear using physician prescription and evaluates patients for assistance in lens design.Consults with ophthalmologist, optometrists, physicians and patients.Inspects glasses and lenses to assure quality eyewear. Responsible for marketing of all eyewear products and services in the shop.Orders, repairs, adjusts and dispenses prescription lenses and frames.Handles customer complaints and refunds.Responsible for ordering and purchasing of all eyewear and supplies, and for inventory control.Maintains required records and files and prepares monthly sales report.Provides training to new employees to provide a smooth transition and assure proper patient care. Keeps current and knowledgeable of insurance and third party payer requirements for eyewear.
High School Education or GED
The incumbent must have excellent communication skills (written, verbal and phone) and the ability to maintain a calm, courteous manner.
The incumbent must be well organized, detail oriented, accurate and efficient.
This position requires an individual with strong human relations and skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, physicians and other allied health staff.
The incumbent must demonstrate a positive attitude and a genuine interest in helping others.
Preferred: One to three years of prior experience in an optical office.
Knowledge of the field of optometry sufficient to dispense eyewear.
Knowledge of equipment, lens, frames and new technology used in the optical field.
Preferred: American Board of Opticianry (ABOC) certification at time of hire
License or certification
Must obtain American Board of Opticianry (ABOC) Certification within 3 years of hire
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $16.92 per hour.
8-5 Mondays-Fridays, occasional Thursday nights until 7:00 PM.
No current weekend store hours.
