The position involves evaluations of invention disclosures coming from Mayo's research activities and assistance in processing these disclosures and any resulting patent applications. Specifically, the Liaison would: a) assist in identifying potentially patentable inventions; b) provide background materials, such as prior art searches; c) assist in drafting patent applications; d) assist in evaluating patent correspondence, including the review of cited art with investigators; e) assist in right to use searches by identifying and evaluating third party intellectual property requirements; and f) assist Mayo's Legal Department in educating staff regarding patent issues.
A PhD, Masters Degree or Undergraduate degree in the Sciences required. Three years experience in an academic research environment required, 5 or more years preferred. Wilingness to complete course requirements to pass the Patent Agent Exam required. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, be able to manage a large number of ongoing projects simultaneously and effectively communicate as a liaison among inventors, Office of Intellectual Property and Patent Counsel.
Educational background in science/biopharma, engineering or radiology preferred.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,644.00 based on a full-time position.
