The Perioperative Service Technician (PST) is responsible for coordination of technical support for all anesthesia related areas of the hospital under direct supervision of anesthesia providers or registered nurse. This includes but is not limited to ORs, PACU, Pre-op area, CCU, OB, GI, CT, Cath Lab and MRI. Responsible for all anesthesia equipment, machines and carts that are used in these areas; assembling complex equipment and supplies, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining equipment. Assisting anesthesia staff for start and end of cases for patient needs. Performs daily cleaning of anesthesia related areas in the operating rooms, including opening, decontaminating between cases, and maintaining, stocking and storing equipment/supplies. Assists anesthesia providers using aseptic technique with non-invasive/invasive procedures including but limited to: peripheral, central intravenous, and arterial line placement, airway management and regional blocks. Perform laboratory tests in the operating room as agreed between Anesthesia Services and Laboratory Services. Knowledge of laboratory equipment including blood gas monitor, TEG Monitor, blood bands, blood tubes and glucometers. Obtains blood products from Blood bank and follows proper procedures for retrieving and delivering all items for Lab.
High school graduate or equivalent. Position requires 30min. response time when called in (if applicable).
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge. Willingness to accept new ideas and work under stressful conditions.
License or certification
Current BLS certification prior to hire.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $17.81 per hour.
Hours / Pay period
64 hours every two week pay period
8 hour rotating shifts, day/evening with on call responsibilities on nights during the week and 24 hour call coverage on weekends.
This position has a scheduled weekend and holiday rotation with on call rotation during the week and weekends.
