Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Accurately performs the duties of a Tech-Check-Tech Pharmacy Technician if qualified. Assists with training new pharmacy staff. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least six months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician required. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English required. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system required. No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions required. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills required. Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding required. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail required. Proven organizational and problem solving skills required. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment required. Basic keyboard skills on computer/typewriter required. Training in Microsoft Windows and Intranet helpful. Requires good written and verbal communication skills.
License or certification
Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation. National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $16.92 per hour.
1.0FTE Full-time Split 1st & 2nd Shift 6:30am-3pm, 7am-3:30pm, 2:30-11pm (40hrs/wk; 80hrs/pp)
- Rotating between 1st & 2nd shifts
- Currently every other weekend rotation; future state to reduce to one wknd/mo
- Holiday rotation; 2 minimum/yr
- Central pharmacy coverage-filling medications orders, sending meds to floors, checking responsibilities, assisting the RPh, answering phones, etc.
- Pyxis responsibilities: picking & delivering medications, restocking medications & supplies, maintenance and troubleshooting pyxis issues
- Sterile IV compounding, occasional hazardous medication compounding
