Position description
This is a float position for our Family Medicine Lab locations and would be required to cover all assigned outpatient areas at Mayo Clinic. The hours may vary depending on daily assigned location. Performs venipuncture, collects blood, and provides appropriate post-care of phlebotomy site. Prepares various specimens for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification. Performs specimen processing in a safe, accurate, and professional manner. Performs order entry; retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate sources. Cooperates with coworkers in the completion of assignments and sets priorities for specimen collection. Employs standard precautions, infection control, and proper isolation techniques. Must be flexible with assigned locations and hours.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy, specimen handling, central processing or medical assisting is required.
Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assisting program required.
High School diploma or GED required.


Additional qualifications
Familiarity with lifespan growth and development, basic anatomy, physiology and basic medical terminology.
Must demonstrate proven ability to work cohesively with teammates and other allied health staff
Ability to be receptive and open to constructive feedback and willingness to improve processes
Proven ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
Ability to learn and utilize multiple computer systems.
Experience in a clinical pathology environment preferred.

Prior experience with specimen processing and handling preferred.
Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $15.74 per hour.
