Position description

The Division of Engineering designs and implements innovative solutions for a wide variety of priorities at Mayo Clinic. The Microfabrication Laboratory works within the Mayo Clinic Division of Engineering to transform healthcare through collaborations with Mayo Clinic clinicians and researchers, leveraging novel materials and processes, and utilizing a highly iterative prototyping process that enables the production of novel medical microdevices.

The Microfabrication Laboratory seeks a highly qualified candidate with a Ph.D. in engineering or materials science to assist with process development and optimization for the fabrication of medical microdevices.

The successful candidate will:
  • Optimize polymer and metal deposition, photolithography, and plasma etching processes.
  • Assist in qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new microfabrication tools and produce documentation for equipment operation and new fabrication processes.
  • Design and fabricate devices for various projects.
  • Assist in maintenance of processing equipment.
Qualifications
BS in Engineering or related field required.

PhD in Engineering or related field strongly preferred.
Additional qualifications
The ideal candidate will also have education, experience and interest in the following areas:
  • Classwork and interest in medical device development, microfabrication, and process development.
  • Experience in a cleanroom developing biosensors or MEMS devices.
  • Experience with photolithography, stereolithography, spin coating, physical vapor deposition, laser ablation, plasma etching, and chemical vapor deposition.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Matlab, SolidWorks, or another CAD or layout software.
  • Working in a team environment with other project team members, users, and project requesters.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,518.00, based on a full-time position.

Typically Monday - Friday, but will require and allow some flexibility based on project needs. We anticipate this candidate to work on site at the Rochester Mayo Clinic campus most days. Some work may be accomplished via telework.

This is a 1-year limited tenure position.
