Position description
The primary responsibilities of our Medical Physics staff are to ensure that patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct location safely and effectively, to implement new technologies and procedures and to manage and participate in a robust quality program. We collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Therapists and other staff to optimize the treatment of our patients. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Performing and documenting the initial commissioning and calibration of radiation producing machines and equipment used in the delivery of radiation therapy.
  • Managing the on-going quality assurance of equipment used in simulation and delivery of radiation therapy.
  • Analyzing and evaluating equipment performance used in simulation and delivery of radiation therapy.
  • Providing technical assistance and clinical support to Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, and other staff.
  • Developing, evaluating, and implementing new technologies and procedures for patient treatments.
  • Providing the necessary data for patient dose calculations and verifying the accuracy of such calculations.
  • Ensuring that radiation treatments preserve the radiation safety of staff, patients, and the public.
  • Remaining current on treatment techniques and applicable Medical Physics practice, as well as Federal, State, and institutional safety guidelines.
  • Completing the ongoing requirements for maintenance of board certification.
  • Providing instruction to medical physics residents and to other staff and students.

We will also consider a level I Physicist, which has promotion potential to the Physicist II level provided all requirements are fully met for the higher level.
Qualifications
We will consider a level I or a level II for this position.

The level I requirements are as follows:


M.S., M.M.P., D.M.P., or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a master's and/or doctoral degree in Physics or a related field. Completion of a CAMPEP accredited residency in Therapeutic Medical Physics and eligible for American Board of Radiology, Therapeutic Medical Physics certification. Additionally, is expected to credential in any procedures practiced independently, but is not expected to be credentialed in all services we provide.

The level II requirements are as follows:

M.S., M.M.P., D.M.P., or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a master's and/or doctoral degree in Physics or a related field. American Board of Radiology, Therapeutic Medical Physics certification or equivalent. Additionally, three years post-degree clinical medical physics experience. Is expected to be credentialed in most procedures practiced in our clinic.

For a level II: Three years post-degree clinical medical physics experience. Is expected to be credentialed in most procedures practiced in our clinic.
License or certification
The level I requirements are as follows:

Eligible for American Board of Radiology, Therapeutic Medical Physics certification.


The level II requirements are as follows:

American Board of Radiology, Therapeutic Medical Physics certification or equivalent.
