Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire is looking for an experienced RN for our high demand Critical Care unit. We have an open model multi-specialty department with 24/7 Intensivist coverage, access to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and state-of-the art technology through 24/7 remote patient monitoring via Enhanced Critical Care (ECC). We care for patients who are ventilated and/or require intensive monitoring and interventions. The department is comprised of 20 Critical Care and 6 Progressive Care beds where we care for a few of the following patient populations:

  • Cardiology/CV Surgery
  • Neurology/Neurosurgical
  • Dialysis
  • Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD)
  • Septic Shock
  • Abdominal and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Repairs
  • Level II Trauma
Our department includes the following features:

  • Flexibility in scheduling
  • Low patient/caregiver ratio (assignments based on acuity)
  • Charge Nurses, who do not take a patient assignment, as a staff nurse resource
  • One department based Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Rapid Response Nurse service 24/7 covered by a designated Critical Care Staff Nurse
  • RN Case Manager or Social Worker to assist with complex patients
Position description

We are looking for Registered Nurses (RN) with a minimum of 1 year of Critical Care/Intensive Care experience in nursing or 1 year of Intermediate or Progressive Care nursing experience. To be successful in this role, you will need to have a willingness to learn, be energetic, have great teamwork skills, and collaborate well with MD providers and Advanced Practice Providers throughout the organization. We believe in educating and supporting nurses along the journey with help at every level!

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you are accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. This role supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. As a RN, you will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting.
Additional qualifications
All entry-level associate degree or diploma registered nurses with a RN start date after September 1, 2013, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 6 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

One year of RN experience in Progressive Care/Intermediate Care, Critical Care or Intensive Care Unit within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, and prior experience.

License or certification

Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $30.55 per hour.

Schedule details
Various schedule options: 8 and 12 hour shift length currently available. Positions will be discussed at the time of interview.
Weekend schedule
12 hour shifts work every 3rd weekend ; two holidays per year
8 hour shifts work every other weekend; three holidays per year
