A Research Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary transitional role with the primary purpose to allow qualified individuals to work within an established investigator’s program in preparation for an academic and/or independent research career. The ability to perform specialized or complex functions would typically be demonstrated through review of scientific accomplishments, contributions, and peer-reviewed publications averaging at least one per year post-doctoral degree. Mayo Clinic Health Sciences Research, Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics is currently seeking a talented postdoctoral candidate with research interest in clinical and biomedical statistics/informatics to join the program. The appointee will join a diverse team of researchers conducting clinical research in collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology including: retrospective analyses of medium to large registry databases, development of predictive models for patient-level data, programming and development of interactive tools to improve clinical utilization of patient data.

Key requirements and selection criteria for the position include:
  • Ph.D in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in some of the following areas: statistical models for clinical data, predictive modeling, image analysis, ensemble models for multiple data types
  • Demonstrated expertise or familiarity in the use of R, Python, and SAS
Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. The following is required for completeness of application:
  • Current curriculum vitae with bibliography
  • Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable)

Additional qualifications
Other desirable skills and selection criteria include:
  • Knowledge of big data techniques and data mining are plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in some of the following areas: clinical common data models, clinical natural language processing, clinical terminology and ontology, clinical data warehouse and secondary use of EMR applications
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively inside HSR program and a strong interest and devotion in working with clinicians and biomedical researchers
  • Familiar with Semantic Web framework/technologies and programming skills in a variety of languages
