A Research Associate is being sought within the program of Susan Hallbeck, Ph.D. performing Human Factors Engineering in Health Care Systems Engineering within the Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. The Research Associate will be involved in the Human Factors Engineering (https://www.mayo.edu/research/labs/human-factors-engineering/overview) and Systems Integration team which collaborates with clinicians, scientists, and patients to identify and solve critical health care issues. Using scientific engineering methodology, the provider and engineering partnerships solve complex problems and improve quality of life. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and the ability to lead projects.
This position requires expertise in Human Factors/Ergonomics. Therefore, human research subject experience is highly desired. This position does not involve “research operations” development. Applicants should have or soon be receiving a Ph.D. specifically in Engineering or Applied Psychology.
A Research Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary transitional role with the primary purpose to allow qualified individuals to work within an established investigator’s program in preparation for an academic and/or independent research career. The ability to perform specialized or complex functions would typically be demonstrated through review of scientific accomplishments, contributions, and peer-reviewed publications averaging at least one per year post doctoral degree. The Research Associate is expected to provide leadership support and training within an established research program.

Must have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Requires at least three years of postdoctoral research experience at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere with evidence of publications and other scientific accomplishments.
Ph.D. in industrial engineering or related engineering field with special emphasis on ergonomics, especially physical ergonomics.
