Position description

A Research Fellow appointment is available in Dr. Tushar Patel’s laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Florida.

The focus of the laboratory is to evaluate the role of RNA in pathogenesis, diagnosis or treatment of liver cancers. The successful candidate will work on projects related to contributions to disease microenvironment, applications and effects of RNA based therapies for liver cancers and the use of extracellular vesicle-based delivery approaches using both cellular and in vivo models.

Responsibilities include: Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research studies related to funded grants. Develop research ideas, projects and protocols to be submitted for new grant applications. Write abstracts for submission to annual scientific meetings to be presented as podium or poster. Write manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should be a highly motivated, hard-working and creative individual, with excellent written and oral presentation skills. Top candidates will have a strong publication record, versatility in technical and intellectual skills and ability to perform well in interdisciplinary teams. We are looking for candidates with strong research experience in wet bench cell and molecular techniques. Strong analytical skills are also required. Applicants with a background in cellular and molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field are encouraged to apply.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

  • Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.

Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.


Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program.
